Let There Be LIGHT!

We have gotten disturbing reports that on a couple of occasions our  8:55 PM softball games have been interrupted in the late innings by the lights at certain fields going off before the game is complete. Bottom line: this should not be happpening. We have been working with the Rec & Park Department to get this situation corrected ASAP.

And we certainly hope we will not see any more incidents of this. However, if the lights should shut off before a game is complete, here are three things you can do [and that we would ask you to do]:

1.) Call Park Patrol at 415-218-9353 right away. They MAY be able to get somebody there to get the lights turned back on so the game can be completed and people can have light so they can depart from the Park safely.

2.) Report the incident to the 311 San Francisco Customer Service number. This is important to help track and correct this issue.

3.) Contact the League Office and let us know about it at 415-831-6316 or leagueoffice {at} sfsoftball(.)com so that we can follow up with the relevant people at Rec & Park.

We also encourage you — and urge you — to take steps #2 and #3 above (contact 311 and also contact us) if the lights at your field have any burned out lamps, are not working properly, are mis-focused or obscured (by trees, etc.)

As you have probably seen in the media, there are a lot of changes going on at Rec & Park. We are working hard to make sure that San Francisco Softball games are the highest-quality experience possible. The more information you give us, the more effective we can be on your behalf. Thank you.

WINTER SOFTBALL LEAGUE

We’ve been getting several inquiries about Winter League at the SF Softball Office.

Winter Softball Leagues are private Leagues, not administered by the SF Softball Office. We regret to report that the Wolf Sports Winter League — the primary Winter League that has operated in San Francisco for the past 26 years may be canceled this year. The issue seems to be obtaining suficient fields from the Recreation and Park Department Fields Office at a reasonable enough cost to make the league viable and keep team fees under $850 per team (last year team fees were $550 per team). For further updates or to express your support for the Wolf League, please contact Jack Wolf at (415) 552-1705 or jackjwolf {at} sbcglobal(.)net. Stay tuned — some arrangement may yet be worked out — supportive emails from Winter teams can only help. Please also cc: us on your email at sab {at} sfsoftball(.)com.

The Bay Area Social and Sport Cartel is also running a Fall/Winter Softball League that will play on Thursdays and Sundays in the Presidio from 10/2/08 to 11/30/08. Full teams and individual players (free agents) can get more information and sign up at http://www.basscartel.com/

The San Francisco Winter Softball League is a private League, not administered by the SF Softball Office. Jack Wolf of Wolf Sports on Wheels runs the Winter League. This season will be the 26th year of San Francisco Winter Softball. Winter League starts play in late October and usually runs through the following February or March, depending on the weather. For more information and to sign up, please contact Jack Wolf at (415) 552-1705 or jackjwolf {at} sbcglobal(.)net.

All Postponed Games From Jackson and other fields have been RESCHEDULED. Pease Click Here to view the Make Up Game Schedule.

***CALL (415) 831-6316 OR EMAIL leagueoffice {at} sfsoftball(.)com FOR MORE INFORMATION.

What Happened: On the weekend of 8/2/08, an irrigation pipe ruptured at Jackson Field, flooding the outfield. Games scheduled for Jackson were moved to other fields and all postponed games have been rescheduled (see above). City Plumbers completed temporary repairs but a full repair will require long-term work in the offseason. In the meantime, the automatic irrigation system at Jackson has been shut off to prevent further leaking and the fields are being hand watered by the Jackson grounds crew.

Post Your Team Picture on SFSoftball

We want your pictures! So break out your digital camera or cameraphone, snap a team picture and email it to us at website {at} sfsoftball(.)com. We’ll add you to our growing gallery of San Francisco Softball images. Please be sure to include your team name, day of play and classification in the body of your email. Also you can send in your in-game action pictures and we’ll post those up as well. Again, please be sure to include the team names, day of play and classification. And, of course, the San Francisco Softball League reserves the right to edit submissions for image size and appropriateness.

Important: Game Time Changes

Our Second Big Announcement: Due to an off-season adjustment in the City’s field reservations system, all weeknight Slow-Pitch game start times have been shifted by 5 minutes. The early game will now start at 6:35 PM (instead of 6:30), the second game will not change (7:45 PM start time) and the late game will start at 8:55 PM (instead of 9:00). All Slow-Pitch Games will still be allowed one hour and ten minutes of playing time.

Welcome to the new SFSoftball.com

Members of the San Francisco Softball Community,Greetings! As you can see, we’ve switched our League website over to a new platform and a new look. It’s our hope that the new design and functionality will allow you to access more information about San Francisco Softball more quickly and easily than ever. The new home of SF Softball is now run “in house,” and it will be easier for the League Office to keep this site updated with the latest announcements and information. This message is help you get adjusted and give you a quick tour of what is new and what has changed. If at any time you have questions or trouble with the new site, please email us at website {at} sfsoftball(.)com and we’ll get you pointed in the right direction or make the needed adjustment to SFSoftball.com. Lets get started…

What Has Changed — As you can see, we have simplified the Navigation of the site. We put the most popular pages on SFSoftball — the Schedules and Standings and Fields pages right where you can always get to them easily. Also, we changed the look of the Schedules page slightly, but it still works the same way as before — you still simply click on the name of your Division to pull up a PDF of your schedule that you can save or print. Also, the Standings page now gives you the ability to SORT your division so you’ll always be able to easily tell who is in first place (or you can display the teams alphabetically, if that’s your thing.)

Roster forms, equipment information and official rules of the League have been consolidated under the Join the League and League Rules pages. However, due to the importance of the Illegal Bat Rules, we have devoted an entire separate page to Illegal Bats.** NOTE: If you have any doubt whether that new bat you’re thinking about buying is legal or not, call or email the league office BEFORE you buy it: (415) 831-6316 or leagueoffice {at} sfsoftball(.)com.The League Office is also happy to answer your questions about other field equipment or game rules or procedures — or anything else.So take a look around the all new SFSoftball.com. We’ll be adding features and making adjustments over the next several weeks. (One of the things we’re working on right now is the Team Picture Gallery, for example.) Make sure to check back often for updates on the latest happenings in San Francisco Softball.
