Summer Season 2007

Play begins July 27.

New for 2007: Modified Co-Ed

Line-up: A team consists of 10 players, 6 men and 4 women. However, a team may begin with a minimum of 9 players, of which 3 must be women. Teams may also start the game with 5 males and 4 females. If a team starts with 9 players and a player arrives late, that player may enter the game immediately, in the last spot in the batting order. Until the last player arrives, the vacant position will be an out.

At-Bats: The batter begins each plate appearance with the count of one ball and one strike. The batter is allowed one free foul ball after the second strike. Three males may not bat in a row. If using extra players, 12 players (7 male and 5 female) must start the game. Teams use the 12-inch softball for both male and female batters.

If a male batter walks before another male batter he is awarded 1st base only. If he walks in front of a female batter he is awarded 2nd base.

In the Field : Teams must have at least one female in the infield and outfield, and one male and one female as pitcher and catcher. All other rules are the same as City Co-Ed ASA Rules.

New Balls, New Bat List in 2004

All slow-pitch managers must supply COR .44, 375-lb. compression balls this season. And we are now using the ASA bat lists (except composite bats, which are still illegal except in Open B & CC). Click to see our new Balls page and our new Illegal Bats page.

Eureka Valley / Glen Park Twilight League

This modified fast pitch softball league is looking for new teams for its 44th season, which begins next May. Playing at the Glen Park Recreation Center, the league features bunting and stealing. Who's Letting the Dogs Out? Part 2

We all know the hazards caused by dogs running loose on our softball fields: holes, urine and feces. The dog owners are organized and some are trying to convince the city to increase the use of athletic fields for dog walking. You're one of the thousands of softball players who use those fields and whose league fees pay massive field usage and upkeep fees to the city. You should have a voice too. You can lend your support to the players' side.

We are not anti-dog. There are, and should be, plenty of open spaces and designated areas in parks for dogs. (The SF Dog Owner's Web site lists 40 such areas.) We are only talking about athletic fields, specifically softball fields.

No one should be able to damage softball fields without at least paying to repair the damage.

Attention Women Players!

Are you and your teammates over 30 and interested in competing against players your own age?

We are looking for teams interested in playing in a Women's Masters League. We will need a commitment from at least five teams to start the league. League play would most likely be Wednesday nights. If you're interested, if you know a team that might be interested, or if you just have questions, send us an e-mail or leave a post on the Message Board.

Thanks!
